It is a night of worship and prayers for all Muslims. After sunset read 40 times “La Hawla walaa Quwwata illa Billahil-aliyil Azeem” with three times Durood Shareef before and after. Laylat al-Bara’ah – Night of Salvation The 15th night of Shabaan is a very blessed night. According to the Hadith Shareef, the name of this Mubarak night is “Nisf Shabaan” which means 15th night of Shabaan. The reason for this special night to attain its name of Laylat al-Bara’ah, meaning the Night of Salvation, Seeking Freedom from Azaab and Calamity, is that in this night the Barkaat and acceptance of repentance may be accomplished. Laylat al-Baraa’ah in Persian, as well as in Urdu, is called Shab-e Bara’at.It is the special night of seeking forgiveness and repenting to Almighty Allah, remembering our past sins and sincerely settling the mind that one will never commits sins in the future. All the deeds that are against Shari’ahmust be totally avoided so that our Du’a and Istighfaar, hopefully, will beaccepted. Muslims should check themselves and A’la Hadrat, Imam AhmadRida Fadil e-Bareilly (radi Allahu ta’ala anhu) has given a beautiful advise inthis regard. This great Imam said: “Verily the auspicious night of Shab-e-Bara’a is drawing near when the deeds of the slave will be presented to the Almighty Allah. I humbly supplicate in the Darbar-e-Aqdas of the AlmightyAllah that through the Wasila-e-Uzma of Sayyiduna Rasoolullah (Salla Allahu alaihi wa Sallam) He forgives the sins and transgressions of allMuslims. Aameen.”On this occasion, it should be the duty of all Sunni Muslims to forgive oneanother and to make sure that whatever debts owed to one another is settled. The importance of Huqooq al-Ibaad cannot be over-emphasised as this is among the pre-requisites for proper Ibaadat. I pray that all Muslimshumbly remember this night and try as much as possible to perform Ibaadat and other pious deeds so that their Record of Deeds be presentedin all dignity.”Finally, I pray that the Almighty Allah assists you and I and the Muslim Ummah wherever you may be. Muslims should be aware of sincerity and honesty in all their deeds. May Almighty Allah forgive all of us. Aameen.” Faqeer Ahmad Rida Qaderi (may Allah forgive him)How to welcome the NightOn this auspicious night, you should perform fresh Ghusal and Wudhu and perform the two Rakaat of Tahhiyatul Wudhu. In every Rakaat, after theSuratul Fatiha, you should read Ayatul Kursi once and Surah Ahad 3 times. Also perform eight Rakaats of Salah with four Salaams. In each Rakaat afterthe Surah Fatiha, you should read the Ayatul Kursi (once) and Surah Ahad fifty times. What to Recite immediately after SunsetAfter sunset, you should recite “La Hawla walaa Quwwata illa Billahil-aliyil Azeem” forty times with three times Durood Shareef before and after. It is mentioned that by reciting this, Almighty Allah will forgive forty years of your sins and forty Hoors will await to serve you in Jannat al-Firdous.Countless MerciesSayyiduna Rasoolullah (Salla Allahu alayhi wa Sallam) has stated: “Verily! Almighty Allah directs His Special Grace on the world on this Night. Heforgives my Ummah more than the number of wool that is found on the sheep of the Bani Kalb”. We should remember that in those days the Bani Kalb possessed the most number of sheep that any other tribe. How great is the Mercy of Almighty Allah on this night that He forgives millions of Muslims. We also realise from this that these numbers can onlypertain to the Ahl as-Sunnah Wah Jama’ah collectively, for the righteousfollowers of the Hanafi, Shafi’i, Maliki and Hanbali indeed number millionsof Muslims. The visitors of this NightIt is narrated that the departed souls (Arwaah) of the Muslims visit the houses of their friends and relatives on this night and proclaim: “O peopleof the house! You stay in our houses and enjoy the wealth that we have left behind. You use our children and take work from them, please perform ourEsaale Sawaab. Verily our deeds have become complete, while your recordof deeds is still spread”.If the people of the house perform the Esaale Sawaab and Khatam Shareef on this night, then the Arwaah depart will the Sawaab extremely happy and overjoyed all the time making Du’a for the people.Visit to the CemeteryHadrat Ayesha Siddiqa (radi Allahu ta’ala anha) reports: “One night, whichwas the 15th of Shabaan, I did not find the Beloved Prophet (Salla Allahu ta’ala alayhi wa Sallam) in the house so I went in search of him. After a longsearch, I found him in Baqiah (the cemetery of Madinah) offering Du’a forthe deceased and praying for their forgiveness”. (Baihaqi)A special point must be made to visit the cemetery during this night and pray for the deceased buried therein, as the Most Beloved Prophet (SallaAllahu alayhi wa Sallam) is been reported as having visited the cemetery on this night and spending a long time therein, lamenting, reading and praying for the deceased. To keep FastAccording to the Hadith Shareef which is narrated by Ibne Habaan (radi Allahu ta’ala anhu) that Rasoolullah (Salla Allahu ta’ala alayhi wa Sallam) said: “When the night of 15th Shabaan arrives spend the night awake and keep fast the next day”.Hadrat Abu Hurairah (radi Allahu ta’ala anhu) reports that the Most Beloved (salla Allahu alayhi wa Sallam) of Allah ta’ala said often in his Khutba (sermon): “O people! Lighten and cleanse your bodies by way of fasting during Shabaan, so that it shall be easy and helpful to you for the fast during Ramadan. Whoso fasts for three days during Shabaan, all his past sins are wiped off”. (Baihaqi) Fasting is also recommended on the 13th,14th and 15th of Shabaan. How to spend the NightOn this night, perform Nawaafil, recite the Qur’an Shareef, recite abundant Durood Shareef, Istighfaar and Kalima Tayyibah. It is also mentioned that if one reads Surah Dukhan seven times on this night, Almighty Allah will reward you with 70 worldly needs and 70 deeds for the Hereafter.Do not be amongst deprived of MercySayyiduna Rasoolullah (Salla Allahu ta’ala alayhi wa Sallam) said: “AlmightyAllah forgives all Muslims on this night, besides the fortune tellers, the magicians, the alcoholics, those who disrespect their parents and those who take part and encourage adultery”.In another narration, the following people have also been mentioned:1. One who deals in usury (Riba),2. One who wears his trousers below his ankle with pride and arrogance (In Arabia, people displayed their wealth and boasted in this manner),3. One who creates disunity among two Muslims,4. The person who unjustly takes away the right and property of another Muslim and has not yet rectified himself. All these persons are not shown Mercy on this auspicious Night.A humble appeal to seek pardon and ask Allah’s forgivenessDear Muslim brothers, the Bountiful Allah in His Infinite Mercy has provided us with such an auspicious night so that we may take advantage of it and repent for our sins, and thus obtain His Grace and Favour. It is forus to take full advantage of it. During this night, offer special prayers and repent sincerely for our past sins and ask for His Forgiveness. Also on this night the Doors of Mercy and Forgiveness are opened wide, and those who sincerely grieve over and repent for their past sins and seek forgiveness from Allah are pardoned and forgiven by the Grace of Allah theMerciful. Each Tasbih or Du’a should begin and terminate with the recital of Durood Shareef and one who wishes for the acceptance of his Du’as should use the Wasila of Sayyiduna Rasoolullah (Salla Allahu ta’ala alyhi wa Sallam).Hadrat Ghawth al-A’zam, Shaykh Abd al-Qadir al-Jilani (radi Allahu anhu)has mentioned in his famous”Gunyat-ut Talibeen” that the month of Shabanaccording to some narrations is related to Rasoolullah (salla Allahu alayhi wa Sallam). So, it is our duty, as the Ummat of Rasoolullah (Salla Allahuta’ala alayhi wa Sallam) to love and respect this month more than any othermonth (besides Ramadan). We should also offer abundantly salutations (Salaat-o-Salaam) upon the Most Beloved Prophet (Salla Allahu ta’ala alayhiwa Sallam). While we are praying and asking for ourselves and family, we should also remember in our Du’as the Muslim Ummah facing calamities in many parts of the world, that may Allah Ta’ala grant them the strength and Istiqaamat (steadfastness) in Deen. Those weak Muslims who are under pressure fromthe West and modernisation, may Allah Ta’ala guide them and show themthe right path so that they be in touch with their glorious past. Aameen. May Almighty Allah guide us on the path of the Ambiya and the Awliya. Aameen.Short Story of those who even read two Raka’at on the night of 15th Sha’baan It is recorded in ‘Rauze Al-Afkaar’ that Hazrat Isa (Peace be on him) passed near a mountain. He saw a big white stone. Since it was a very different kind of stone, he was looking at it with surprise. The Almighty Allah conveyed to him, “Would you like to see something more surprising that this?” Hazra Isa (Peace be on him)said, “Yes, my Lord. “The stone burst open and a man came out of if holding a green coloured stick in his hand. There was a grape-tree beside him. The man said, This is my daily food.” Hazrat Isa (Peace be on him) asked him, “Since when are you busy worshipping Allah in this stone ?”He replied, “Since four hundred years.” Hazrat Isa (Peace be on him) pleaded to Allah, “I feel that you have not created anyone better than this man.” The Almighty Allah conveyed, “That person from the people of Muhammed (Blessing of Allah and peace be on him) who offers two taka’at on the night of 15th Sha’baan will be better than the four hundred year’s worship. “Hazrat Isa (Peace be on him) said, “I wish I were among the people of Muhammed (Blessing of Allah and Peace be on him). = = = = = = = = = = = == == …..Gabriel (peace be upon him) came to me on the night of mid-Sha’ban and said to me: “O Muhammad, raise your head heavenwards!” I asked him: “What night is this?” and he replied: ” This is the night when Allah (Glorified is He) opens three hundred of the gates of mercy, forgiving all who do not make anything His partner . The only exceptions are those who practice sorcery or divination, are addicted to wine, or persist in usury and illicit sex; these He does not forgive until they repent.” Also on this night the Doors of Mercy and Forgiveness are opened wide, and those who sincerely grieve over and repent for their past sins and seek forgiveness from Allah are pardoned and forgiven by the Grace of Allah the Merciful. Each Tasbih or Du’a should begin and terminate with the recital of Durood Shareef and one who wishes for the acceptance of his Du’as should use the Wasila of Sayyiduna Rasoolullah (sallal laahu alaihi wasallam). Hazrat Ghousul Azam, Sheikh Abdul Qaadir Jilani (radi Allahu anhu) has mentioned in his famous “Gunyat-ut Taalibeen” that the month of Shabaan according to some narrations is related to Rasoolullah (sallal laahu alaihi wasallam). So, it is our duty, as the Ummat of Rasoolullah (sallal laahu alaihi wasallam) to love and respect this month more than any other month (besides Ramadaan). We should also offer abundantly salutations (Salaat-o-Salaam) upon the Holy Prophet (sallal laahu alaihi wasallam). To Keep Fast According to the Hadith Shareef which is narrated by Ibne Habaan (radi Allahu anhu) that Rasoolullah (sallal laahu alaihi wasallam) said: “When the night of 15th Shabaan arrives spend the night awake and keep fast the next day”. Hazrat Abu Hurairah (radi Allahu anhu) reports that the Holy Prophet (sallal laahu alaihi wasallam) said often in his Khutba (sermon): “O people! Lighten and cleanse your bodies by way of fasting during Shabaan, so that it shall be easy and helpful to you for the fast during Ramadaan. Whoso fasts for three days during Shabaan, all his past sins are wiped off”. (Baihaqi) Fasting is also recommended on the 13th, 14th and 15th of Shabaan. Nafil on the Last Friday of Shabaan Death With Complete Faith/Imaan:Anyone who performs 2 rakaahs of Nafil on the Last Friday of Shabaan between Maghrib and Esha will die with full faith and Imaan. Kia Hum In Main Say Tu Nahi (Sins are so Severe) Must Read

The following sins are so severe that due to them one would be deprived of the blessings of this great night
Night of Blessings
Toba Ki Raat
To associate any partners to Allah Ta’ala , regarding His Being and Qualities.
To have enmity for one’s fellow brothers.
Not fulfilling the rights of our close relatives and treating them unkindly.
To allow the trousers and pants to hang below the ankles.
To be disobedient to the parents.
To drink wine.
To oppress and take bribes
To be involved in witchcraft.
To inform people of the unseen or to cast spells and be involved in fortune telling.
To read the palms in order to tell the future.
To play the guitar, drum or any other musical instrument.
To play any game that requires the use of dice.
After writing the virtues and blessings of this month, regretfully, we will have to include that
due to the evil nature of our actions, we have converted all our actions to punishment and our
blessings into worldly and hereafter losses. The Muslims were once those who used to draw som
good from bad, some virtues from stating away from evil and benefit benefit from troubles we
encounter today. As a consequence of the evil nature of our actions, the table have turned and
we have lost out in all places of good and achieve loss in all places of benefit. May Allah Ta’ala
grant all the Muslims the ability to practice good deeds and follow the Sunnah of our beloved
Nabi(S.a.w.w)  .
And Allah Ta’ala  is the only one who grants us the ability and divine assistance.
Our Saintly elders used to worship on the night of Shabe Baraat and fast the next day.
Who are we to find fault with these noble practices ?

Oh ALLAH we humbly beg of You, Your Forgiveness for any of our shortcomings and we beg of You,

Your Divine Help and assistance, Aameen

** The Fast Of 15th Shaban **

The Fast Of 15th Shaban (Revised opinion of Mufti Taqi Usmani)

________________________________________

By Mufti Taqi Usmani

Q. I have read the Shabaan issue of your magazine Al-BALAGH certain questions are bothering me with regard to fasting on the 15th of Shabaan. I would like to explain the reason for this question. Several months ago a friend explained to me that there is no special significance of the fast of the 15th of Shabaan. However, he says this Hadith is absolutely weak to such an extent that one of its narrators was a person who was regarded by some scholars of Hadith as a fabricator of Hadith and a liar. Hence, he says that, until another reliable Hadith can be found the fast of the 15th of Shabaan has no special virtue. He also explained to me the following points :

(1) He has not come across any of the Fuqaha having even mentioned fasting specifically on the 15th of Shabaan; where as they have mentioned the fasts of Aashura and the six fasts of Shawwal etc.

(2) While it has been narrated in many authentic Ahadith that Rasulullah (S.A.W.) fasted for most of the month of Shabaan, this cannot be used to prove any special significance for the specific fast of the 15th of Shabaan. He told me that those Ahadith must be explained as they are i.e. for the entire month of Shabaan - not the 15th of the month.

(3) The Hadith regarding visiting the graveyard on the 15th of Shabaan is much more authentic and reliable compared to the Hadith regarding fasting on the 15th of Shabaan. However, despite this the Ulema have prohibited the people from making it a habit. Therefore, since a very great number of people observe only the fast of the 15th of Shabaan and regard it as a Sunnah, whereas the Hadith in this regard is absolutely and totally weak, the Ulema should stop the people from this also.

(4) When I suggested that what Harm, can here be if people observed this fast even if in reality it is not Sunnah or even Nafl, he stated: This is the way many Bidat have started (though this practice is not a Bid'ah). Furthermore this is a matter of "Aqeedah" and to regard something as Sunnah which in reality is not Sunnah is a very dangerous and grave matter. Hence it is necessary that either the act be proved Sunnah or else the people should be stopped from this since, if they practice, it they would do so regarding it as a Sunnah.

Hence I now wish to pose my questions.

(1) He has stated that this Hadith is "totally and absolutely weak" whereas Mufti Sahib has stated that "the Scholars of Hadith have some doubts regarding the authenticity of this Hadith." Has he exaggerated in this claim of "totally and
absolutely weak"?

(2) is it true that one of the narrators was regarded as a fabricator and liar?

(3) Are his arguments in (1),(2),(3) and (4) above correct?

(4) On page 14 Mufti Sahib has written; "Although the scholars of Hadith have some doubts about the authenticity of this report, yet it is mentioned earlier that the fasts of the first half of Shabaan have special merits...." I have not found any narration in the article which explains the special merits of fasting in the first half of Shabaan. All the narrations deal with the fasts of the FIRST HALF of Shabaan, please quote this for me.

(5) Mufti Sahib also stated the practice of the Salaf (elders). Who is meant by "elders"?

(6) If it is accepted that one of the narrators was accused of being a fabricator and a liar did the "Salaf" regard this Hadith as authentic "as is" i.e. despite the condition of this narrator?

(7) Mufti Sahib has stated; "therefore, it is advisable to fast on the 15th of Shabaan as an optional (nafl) fast" Most people regard this fast as "Sunnah" and not nafl. Is in incorrect to regard this fast as Sunnah?

(8) Is this Nafl fast equal to keeping a nafl fast on any other day for example, the 1st of January; whichever Islamic date that may fall on? (excepting Ramadan, the 10th of Muharram, etc)?

I hope Mufti Sahib will quickly answer these questions and remove my doubts and the doubts of many others here in this regard.
(Yousuf Desai, South Africa)

A. I am grateful to you for your question which provided me with an opportunity to revise my article and to study the subject in more detail. In fact, the fast of the 15th of Shabaan is based on a tradition reported by Sayiddna Ali. Its text runs as follows :

When the Middle Night of Shabaan arrives, you should stand (Praying) in the night and should fast in the day following it.This Hadith is recorded by Ibn Majah in his Sunan, one of the famous six books of Hadith, and also by Baihaqi in his famous book Shu'ab-al-'iman'. Both of them have reported it without any comment about its authenticity. But after a critical analysis of its chain of narrators it is found that this tradition is mainly based on the report of Abu Bakr Ibn Abi Saburah whose narrations cannot be relied upon. That is why the scholars of Hadith have declared it as a weak (da'if) tradition. However, the allegation that the narrator of this Hadith i.e. Abu Bakr ibn Abi Saburah, is a fabricator who used to coin forged traditions does not seem correct. In fact, he was mufti of Madinah, a well-known jurist and he was appointed as a qadi (Judge) of Iraq in the days of Mansur and was succeeded in this office by Imam Abu Yousuf. He was a colleague of Imam Malik.

Once Mansur, the Abbasi Caliph, asked Imam Malik referred to three names, and one of them was that of Ibn Abi Saburah. Had he been a fabricator, Imam Malik would have never referred to his name in this context. But despite his high position among the jurists, his memory was not of the standard required for the uthenticity of a tradition. That is why most of the critics of Hadith like Imam Bukhari etc. Have held him as weak, but did not declare him a fabricator. Only Imam Ahmed is reported to have remarked about him that he fabricates Hadith. But this remark alone is not sufficient to hold him as a fabricator, for two reasons: Firstly Imam Ahmed was born long after him, and his contemporary scholars never held him as such, secondly the Arabic words used by Imam Ahmed are some times used for confusing one tradition with another, and not for deliberate fabrication.

This is the reason why the majority of the scholars of Hadith have held Abu Bakr ibn Abi Saburah as a weak reporter of Hadith, but they did not declare him as a forger or fabricator. Now, coming to his tradition about the fast of the 15th Ramadan it is held by the scholars to be weak but i have not come across an authentic scholar who has treated it as a fabricated (Mawdu) Hadith. There are a number of books indicating the fabricated Ahadith, but this tradition is not included in these books as fabricated.

It is well-known that Ibn Majah consists of about twenty Ahadith held to be fabricated. The list of these fabricated AHadith is available, but the tradition in question is not included therein.

Therefore, the correct position is that this Hadith is not fabricated. However, being reported by a weak narrator, it cannot be relied upon in the matter of the injunctions of Shariah. Thus, the fast of the 15th of Shabaan cannot be termed as Sunnah or Mustahab in the strict sense of the term. Nevertheless, it may be advisable to fast in the 15th of Shabaan without taking it as Sunnah for several reasons:

Firstly it is fully established through a large number of Ahadith that the Holy Prophet (S.A.W.) has emphasized on the merits of fasting in Shabaan, and particularly in the first half of the month. The 15th day of Shabaan, being the last day of the first half, is included in the preferable days for fasting.

Secondly, the merits of the 15th night of Shabaan is established by more than a dozen Ahadith. It means that this night should be spent in prayers and other forms of worship. On the other hand, all the blessed nights which the Muslims are advised to spend in worship are generally followed by fasting on the coming day like in the Laylatul-Qadr, where fasting on the following day is obligatory, or like the first night Zilhijjah where fasting on the following days is optional, rather advisable. on this analogy, too, the 15th night of Shabaan may be followed by an optional fasting on the following day.

Thirdly, the tradition relating to the merits of fasting on 15th of Shabaan is, no doubt, a weak tradition, not competent to prove this practice to be a Sunnah or a formal Mustahabb, but it can be acted upon as a measure of precaution, provided that the practice is not taken as Sunnah or a formal Mustahabb. It is for these reasons that some Ulama and elders have been fasting on the 15th of Shabaan and have been taking it an advisable practice. It is in this context that I had mentioned this fast as advisable in my previous article. But when I revised the article after receiving your question, I now feel that the relevant paragraph may create misunderstanding and it needs clarification. I now armend it in accordance with what is stated above in this article.

Again, I am thankful to you for your letter which enabled me to revise and correct my previous article. May Allah give you the best reward for it

¬¬¬ Shab-E-Barat ---Laylat Al-NusF ¬¬¬

Assalmualykum,

Just like to know what people think of shab e baraat and do you follow it as its only people from southAsia who kind of celebrate it. Any hadiths to proove your opinion would be beneficial
Please tell me the meaning of Shab-e-Barat. Shab as I know is not Arabic but a persian word meaning night. -e- meeans of and Baraat cannot be the Urdu word Baaraat meaning bridegroom's arrival at a wedding. And raat is again night in Urdu but ba is prefixed to it so I dont know what it means. Please clarify and tell me what baraat means. If there was some such thing as Shab-e-baraat in Islam there must certainly an Arabic term for that. What is that?
In the Asian world they say Shab e - Baraat but in Middle East its called Laylat al-Nusf
Q 1. Please comment on the following: What is Shab-e-barat? What is the significance of the night of the 15th of Sha’ban? Why is the Arab world not aware of this night? When did we start celebrating this religious festival and where? Is there any mention of this night in our Holy Qur’an? Is there any authentic book where something is mentioned about this night? In India, Pakistan and Bangladesh, some people celebrate this night and mix it up with the greatest night “Laylatul Qadr” of the month of Ramadan. (Jamshed Taher, L.A.)

A 1. The month of Sha’ban is the eighth month of the Islamic lunar calendar. The fifteenth night of this month is known as Laylatul Bara’ah or Laylatun Nisfe min Sha’ban in the Arab world. In India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Iran, Afghanistan, etc., it is known as Shab-e-barat. Some people believe that in Surah al-Dukhan (44:3-4) there is a reference to this night as Allah says, “We sent it (the Qur’an) down during a blessed night. We are truly warners. In that night is made distinct every affair of wisdom” But the night referred to here cannot be a Sha’ban night, because it is said here clearly that the Qur’an was revealed in this night. We know from the Surah al-Qadr (97) that the Qur’an was revealed in the night of Qadr and we also know from the Qur’an (Al-Baqarah 2:185) that the Qur’an was revealed in the month of Ramadan, so it is obvious that the night of the revelation of the Qur’an was in Ramadan, not Sha’ban, and that it was Laylatul Qadr not Shab-e-barat (or the Sha’ban night). Some people also say that in the 2nd year of Hijrah, the direction of Qiblah was changed from Jerusalem to Ka’bah (Makkah) on the 15th day of Sha’ban. This report is also not confirmed by authentic Ahadith.According to most of the scholars of Tafsir, the Qur’an has not mentioned anything about the Sha’ban night. There are some Ahadith that speak about the Middle of Sha’ban and its night. However, the scholars of Hadith say that most of the Ahadith concerning this night are not sound. They are weak (da’if) according to the criteria of the Muhaddithin. Imam al-Mundhiri (died in 656 A. H.) in his famous book Al-Targhib wa al-Tarhib (vol. 2, pp. 116-120) has reported fourteen Ahadith on the subject of this night. The following points can be summarized from those Ahadith:

The month of Sha’ban is a great month.
In this month Allah takes the account of His creation.
Because this month occurs between two other important months, viz. Rajab and Ramadan, many people do not pay enough attention to it.
The Prophet -peace be upon him- loved to fast during this month. He used to fast most of the month of Sha’ban.
After sunset during the night of Middle of Sha’ban, Allah in His great mercy and kindness turns towards His creation and asks, “Is there anyone who would seek My forgiveness and I forgive him/her? Is there anyone who is in need to ask Me and I provide for his/her needs. Is there anyone who in pain and seek My help and I help him/her? Is there? Is there? until the time of Fajr.”
The Prophet -peace be upon him- is said to have recommended prayers during this night and fasting during the following day.
It reported that the Prophet -peace be upon him- used to visit the Muslim cemetery on this evening and he used to pray for the deceased Muslims. These are the things that we learn from some Ahadith about the significance of this night. However, there are many practices and customs common in some Muslim countries, such as making a sweet dish (Halwa), doing fireworks (atish baazi) etc. These things have no meaning and no reference in Ahadith. There are also some superstitious beliefs about this night. For example, some people believe that the spirits (arwah) of the deceased visit their relatives during this night. Some believe that there is a special Tree in the heaven upon whose leaves are the names of all human beings, and whatever leaves drop during this night, those people are destined to die in this year. Some think that the decisions about the life and death of people are made during this night. All these beliefs and superstitions do not belong to the authentic teachings of the Qur’an and Sunnah. We must try to follow the Qur’an and the authentic Sunnah of the blessed Prophet -peace be upon him. It is our duty as Muslims to take advantage of all good occasions to revive our faith, to purify our souls and to increase our love and devotion to Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala, but we must follow the Sunnah of the Prophet -peace be upon him. We must not do anything in our celebrations that is against his teachings.

The especial night mentioned in surah Dakan means which night.is it the shaban or Qadar?
what is the importance of 15 shaban,is it the night in which the fate of every one is decided for the next year?
the especial night mentioned in surah Dakan means which night.is it the shaban or Qadar?

Praise be to Allaah.

Laylat al-Nusf min Sha’baan (the 15th of Sha’baan) is like any other night, and there is no sound report from the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) to indicate that on this night the fate or destiny of people is decided.

See Question no. 8907.

With regard to the night mentioned in the verses:

“We sent it (this Qur’aan) down on a blessed night. Verily, We are ever warning [mankind that Our Torment will reach those who disbelieve in Our Oneness of Lordship and in Our Oneness of worship].

Therein (that night) is decreed every matter of ordainments”

[al-Dukhaan 44:3-4]

Ibn Jareer al-Tabari (may Allaah have mercy on him) said: the commentators differed concerning that night, i.e., which night of the year it is. Some of them said that it is Laylat al-Qadr, and it was narrated from Qurtaadah that it is Laylat al-Qadr. Others said that it is the night of the 15th of Sha’baan. The correct view is the view of those who say that it is Laylat al-Qadr, because Allaah has told us of that when He says, ‘Verily, We are ever warning’ [al-Dukhaan 44:3].”

(Tafseer al-Tabari, 11/221)

With regard to the phrase, “Therein (that night) is decreed every matter of ordainments”: Ibn Hajar said in his commentary on Saheeh al-Bukhaari: “What this means is that the decrees for the year are decided on that night, because Allaah says: ‘Therein (that night) is decreed every matter of ordainments’. And al-Nawawi said: the scholars said that it is called Laylat al-Qadr because on this night the angels write down the decrees (aqdaar), because Allaah says, ‘Therein (that night) is decreed every matter of ordainments’. This was also narrated by ‘Abd al-Razzaaq and other mufassireen with saheeh isnaads from Mujaahid, ‘Ikrimah, Qutaadah and others. Al-Toorbashti said that the word used in the Qur’aan is qadr, whereas people think it is qadar (decree); the word qadr refers to the detailed manifestation of the decree.

Laylat al-Qadr brings great reward for the one who does good deeds and strives in worship on that night.

Allaah says (interpretation of the meaning):

“Verily, We have sent it (this Qur’aan) down in the Night of Al-Qadr (Decree).

And what will make you know what the Night of Al-Qadr (Decree) is?

The Night of Al-Qadr (Decree) is better than a thousand months (i.e. worshipping Allaah in that night is better than worshipping Him a thousand months, i.e. 83 years and 4 months).

Therein descend the angels and the Rooh [Jibreel (Gabriel)] by Allaah’s Permission with all Decrees,

(All that night), there is peace (and goodness from Allaah to His believing slaves) until the appearance of dawn”[al-Qadr 97:1-5]

There are many ahaadeeth which speak of the virtue of that night, such as the hadeeth narrated by al-Bukhaari from Abu Hurayrah, in which the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “Whoever spends Laylat al-Qadr in prayer out of faith and hoping for reward, all his previous sins will be forgiven, and whoever fasts Ramadaan out of faith and hoping for reward, all his previous sins will be forgiven.” (Narrated by al-Bukhaari, al-Sawm, 1768).

And Allaah knows best.

----Ayyaam ul Bayz / Shab e Baraat – The Bright Days-Amaal of SHABAAN----

Ayyam Bayz”
The 13th, 14th and 15th of Rajab, Shabaan and Ramadan are known as “Ayyam Bayz” which are known as the “Days of Passing Splendour” or “Bright Days”.
The Holy Prophet (sws) had said that during the nights of the 15th Shabaan, the Almighty takes decisions in the matters of sustenance, life, death and the welfare of the people.
Next to the “Night of Qadr”, the 15th Shabaan is the most auspicious night (also known as the “Night of Baraat”). According to the Holy Imam Muhammad bin Ali al-Baqir (a.s) and Jafar bin Muhammad as-Sadiq (a.s), the Almighty Allah (swt) has promised to fulfil every legitimate desire put forward to Him in that night.
Imam Jafar bin Muhammad as-Sadiq (a.s.) has said:
“Whoso prays during the nights of “Ayyam Bayz”, in fact, stands at the door of the superabundant favours, bounties and benefits available in these months.”
It is highly desirable to hold fast on the 13th, 14th and 15th, have a bath each day and give alms in the way of Allah (swt).
In the nights of “Ayyam Bayz” Momin are instructed to pray a 12 Rak’at namaz as follows:
In the night of the 13th, pray 12 Rak’ats and recite Surah Al Fatihah, Surah Yaaseen and Surah Al Mulk are recited in each Rak’at.
In the night of the 14th, pray 4 Rak’ats in 2 sets of 2 Rak’at, and each set recite Surah Al Fatihah, Surah Yaaseen and Surah Al Mulk.
In the night of the 15th, pray 6 Rak’ats in 3 sets of 2 Rak’ats and in each recite Surah Al Fatihah, Surah Yaaseen and Surah Al Mulk.
he 15th night of Shabaan will fall on the night of the 9th of Sep. in 2006. Of this night Muslims have been told by Prophet Muhammad (sws) that:”When the night of the middle of Shabaan comes, spend the night in prayer and fast the next day for in it Allah t’Allah forgives more sins than the hairs of the goats of the tribe of Kalb.”Prophet Muhammad (sws) has also been quoted as having said:” When the night of the middle of Shabaan comes, Allah descends to the lowest Heaven and says, “Is there anyone begging for forgiveness that I might forgive him? Is there anyone begging for sustenance that I may feed him? Is there any such and such?” And we are told that Allah stays at this lowest heaven ready to accede to our legitimate requests until the break of dawn.”
This is Laylat-ul-Barat, this is the fifteenth of Sha’baan, a very great night. In this night you should be attentive in the worship of Allah, for this is the night of accounting. Whichever child is to be born during the coming year is written down on the list on this night, and the name of whoever is going to pass away in the coming year is deleted from the list.”
